Hyundai is building on it's success in the Indian small car market by bringing in the diesel i10 ahead of schedule and as ealry as end 2008. The i10 has been a hit in the market plugging the gap between the Santro & the Getz nicely. At the moment the smallest Hyundai to sport a diesel motor is the Getz CRDi which has the Verna's 110bhp diesel engine. The i10 would have a small 1.1 litre three cylinder diesel motor which would be extremely fuel efficent and offer good performance too (75 bhp). The new engine and transmission would be built at Hyundai's new plant in Chennai. Expect the diesel i10 to cost Rs. 40,000-50,000 more than the petrol variants.
