Tata Nano, the cheapest car in the the world will come fitted with the cheapest airbag in the world, priced at $10 or Rs. 400 per unit. This breaks the previous record for cheapest airbag in an Indian car which was held by the Maruti Suzuki Zen Estilo's $150 or Rs. 6000 airbag. The $10 airbag would be produced by Autoliv IFB India and would be available as an option on the high end model of the Nano for both driver and front passeger. The high end model would also come with other goodies like alloy wheels and a music system. The $10 price is the sourcing price for Tata, the customer would have to pay more which would include Tata's fitting cost and profit. Who know Tata might be able to source the alloys and the music system for a bargain too. Three cheers for Mr. Tata for developing an ultra low cost (ULC) car for the masses and then thinking of their safety too.
