Nissan's aggressive Indian plans would ride on it's small car, the new generation Micra which would roll out from its upcoming plant in Chennai by 2009. The current Micra is a fun little hatch which has performed very well in International markets including Europe and the U.K. The next generation Nissan Micra would be made in Chennai for export as well as domestic sale. The appearance of the new Micra has reportedly been changed to look more mainstream while increasing interior room and practicality.
In my opinion though the current Micra looks downright ugly from the front and the new model must look better. In the current Micra, the lights are oddly placed and the front grille very tacky. The car looks too kiddish to be taken seriously by male buyers however women may find the cute looks to their liking. The new Micra would be launched with a 1.2 litre, 65 bhp petrol unit and a diesel variant too. Nissan would price the Micra in the vicinity of the i10, Spark and Maruti's upcoming Splash. A price range of Rs. 3.75-4.5 lakh is expected.
