Mercedes-Benz has launched two new variants of the aging E-Class. These variants have been introduced to wade off intense competition from BMW and Audi by offering more value to the discerning Indian automobile buyer. The base E-class model, E200K has been replaced by a more powerful E230 variant equipped with a 2.5 liter V6 petrol engine which belts out 200 bhp @ 6100 rpm and 245Nm of torque at 5500rpm. A new base diesel variant, the E 220 CDI has also been launched and comes powered with a 2.2 litre, four cylinder diesel motor. This motor is very torquey with 410 Nm of churn at just 2000 revs and 166 bhp @ 3700 rpm. Fierce competition has made Mercedes offer goodies like Bi-Xenon headlamps, 3-way seat memory package and electrically adjustable steering wheel as standard across all variants.
The long in the tooth E-Class looks the most dated amngst the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 but with these new variants and added value it is still worth your money.
