Honda's most secret new car, the new Honda City has been caught testing in Pune and is likely to be launched worldwide by the end of 2008. The new Honda City 2009 is designed to give Honda leadership in the budget sedan segment which in India is being dominated by the Maruti Suzuki SX4, also it's most challenging rival. The new City appears to be based on the best selling Civic and is more European in design. The design exudes sportiness with well roportioned body panels and a beautiful rear which resembles that of a BMW 3 series (especially the tail lights). The new city is a proper sedan unlike the current city in which the boot looks like an afterthought.
I expect Honda to launch the City with a 1.5 litre 118 bhp engine which would make it a hoot to drive. There is also a 1.3 litre, 100 bhp engine in Honda's arsenel and in view of the current fuel prices this version is likely to make it's way to India too. Interior space is likely to be good and as much as the SX4 if not more. Honda is said to have worked hard on making the new City fun to drive with greater feedback and response to the driver and sharper handling.
We are eagerly waiting for Honda's new City, which if priced right would lead it's segment just like it's big brother, the Civic.
