These trying times are making auto manufacturers think hard on how to keep making money. The slowdown has put the brakes on new car sales and now manufacturers like Porsche and Toyota are eyeing the used car bazaar in India. Rod Wallace, the MD of Porsche India has said that Porsche would be starting an used car programme by 2009 while A Toyoshima, MD of Toyota Motor Corporation has also hinted towards a Toyota used car arm in India in the near future.

The Porsche used car setup would sell refurbished Porsche's which would come with a dealer warranty. The company is hoping to bring a new league of Porsche owners into the fold by offering more affordable vehicles but which have the same aspirational value, snob value and performance as a new one. The Porsche Used Car arm may be called 'Porsche Approved' as it bears the same name internationally.
