India's two biggest carmakers, Maruti-Suzuki and Hyundai released their sales number for the month of April 2009 today. Maruti-Suzuki's sales have grown 15% from April 2008 while Hyundai sold 10.9% more passenger cars in April 2009 than the same period last year (both including exports). Maruti-Suzuki witnessed maximum sales growth in the A3 segment led by the Swift Dzire and followed by the SX4 while the Maruti 800s sales declined a whopping 47% indicating its imminent demise. Hyundai's best seller was the i10 which along with the Santro, Getz and i20 sold 41,258 units only in the month of April 2009. Both carmakers don't seem to be much affected by the grim economic scenario primarily because of the small car portfolio they possess.
